Review Policy & Comparison Criteria
How we compare starter kits and the practical limits of our desk-based research.
Specification Research Notice
Our comparisons are based on structured specification analysis of manufacturer listings and manifests. We do not conduct laboratory stress testing or physical durability trials.
Kit Evaluation Criteria
Every starter felting package is measured against four foundational beginner needs:
- 1. Safety Hardware Inclusion
- We confirm whether kits include thick leather finger guards and dense work mats necessary to prevent needle pricks and table damage during initial attempts.
- 2. Needle Assortment & Spares
- Beginners break fine needles frequently. We assess whether listings supply multiple replacement needles across defined coarse, medium, and fine gauges rather than single, unspecified needles.
- 3. Fiber Composition & Grammage
- We inspect wool disclosures, distinguishing authentic wool roving or core batting from synthetic acrylic blends, and note total provided fiber weight.
- 4. Instruction Language & Delivery
- We verify whether printed step-by-step guides are delivered in clear English or French, or if the kit relies solely on uncaptioned diagrams or external streaming links.
Evidence Limitations
Product descriptions, tool finishes, and wool color dye lots remain under the direct control of third-party sellers. Because our evidence is unverified by physical destruction or tensile tests, kit ratings reflect listing completeness, supplier transparency, and standard starter requirements.
